We would like to share with you an activity we had in Greene County from our “Guadalupan Multicultural Center”
This Mission took place from 4 – 9 June, in some areas like Forkland, Boligee, Clinton, and Mount Hebron, Alabama. 9 families received help and were repaired their battered houses.
Approximately 150 volunteers participated: men, women, youth, teens, came from four parishes of Birmingham who support our mission, and the hours were from 8:00 am to 12:00 stopped for lunch and then worked until 4:00 or 5:00 pm.
We also supported the Sisters of the Community of Hoover, Martha Elena Perez, Gaby Ramirez and Juventina Garcia doing teamwork.
It was very nice to see that on t-shirts made each year for the mission, appeared our Cross of the Apostolate and our name. In the Eucharist on Wednesday June 8th, Sister Alicia Lopez explained what it represents. And we see this as expanding our horizons for our charism to be known and lived.
There are many things to say, but the main accomplishment was to have done something concrete joining forces in favor of the poorest, with a spirit of faith, joy, respect, charity, sacrifice, surrender. This group of volunteers gave us testimony of this.
We ended with these words of our beloved Pope Francisco:
“Just from a real closeness and friendship we can adequately accompany the poor in their journey of liberation, as the greatest and most effective presentation of the Good News of the Kingdom. Serving them only because they are beautiful beyond his appearance. “(The joy of the Gospel. Cap. V no. 199)
