OHTLI Award
The Consul General of Mexico, Javier Díaz de León, presented the OHTLI Award to the Social Services Center “La Casita”, recognizing the work and service of the Missionary Guadalupanas of the Holy Spirit. That same day, students from the “Plaza Comunitaria” received their graduation diplomas and the anniversary of Mexico’s independence was celebrated. 🇲🇽 Father Kevin Bazzel, Vicar General of our Diocese, and a representative of the Mayor of Hoover, AL, also joined this day of celebration.

La Casita Presentation
On the first day of March, Jaqueline Diego and Taylor joiner gave a presentation to the students of John Carroll High School about the services we provide at La Casita. 400 people attended this presentation. Teachers and students are growing in humanity.

Citizenship Classes
After the pandemic, we resumed the citizenship classes. Mr. Melchor Rivera continues to serve this group of people. We help people feel safer in this country.

Help Paying Bills
The number of aid cases continues to increase. People are left without work and the aid continues to multiply. We continue to reach out and help pay for electricity, water, gas, rent. We help people to rise up in their needs and dignity.

La Casita Posada
On the 10th we had our traditional Christmas Posada. There were gifts, games directed by a funny clown and other games for the children. We had La Posada with the participation of the choir, there was a representation of the Birth of the baby Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and the angels surrounding the manger. It is a religious education for boys and girls born in this country.

AIDE – Applied Institute for Disaster Excellence Workshop
Sister Rosa Cruz participated in The Disaster Operations Team at Catholic Charities USA AIDE 2022 at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These were workshops design to provide help in cases of natural disasters. Learning and training that enable us to serve.

IME – Grant for Advisors
On November 13, we received a scholarship from the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta to support the advisors of the “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe” Community Plaza located in Homewood, AL – La Casita, with extensions in: Albertville, Cullman and Tuscaloosa, AL. We continue to bet on education.

New Branch Extension of a Community Plaza in Tuscaloosa, AL
On September 29, we had the opening of a new branch extension of a Community Plaza at Holy Spirit Parish in Tuscaloosa, AL. The new extension received the name “Mis Raíces” “My Roots”. Dignifying and promoting people.

In the month of February we received support from the electricity company: “Alabama Power” with a Grant of $10,000.00 dlls. to support people: residents and citizens in need. Together we support each other.

This scholarship of $4,000.00 dlls., from the Mexican Consulate in Atlanta, GA supports the students and advisors of the Community Plazas in Birmingham, Albertville and Cullman, AL. The effort made with adults who need to complete their basic studies is supported by the IME scholarship program in Mexico.

Food bank, pantry collection centers, diapers, online communication networks. Distributing food in the center and in neighborhoods where there are a greater number of people in need (St. Joseph Parish, Albertville, Alexander). I work in communion with volunteers. Catechumenate Classes
These catechumenate classes were held at the Catholic Parish of Prince of Peace. The three sisters who work at “La Casita” got involved. Supporting the parish by preparing the Hispanic community to receive the Sacraments of Initiation and helping them grow in their faith: Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, and Matrimony.

On April 14, we gathered the volunteers from “La Casita” and those who became American citizens and prepared themselves in “La Casita”. Mr. Melchor Rivera is the instructor of the citizenship classes. We had a Eucharistic celebration and, afterward, lunch and a small gathering.

Training of leaders, delegating responsibilities, decentralizing services. Fostering collaboration between Americans and Hispanics.
